A Peek at Day Five

Here are some really quick snaps from the day's madness. There would have been more, but we weren't really supposed to be there. Soooooo. . .

That's a Wrap!

Well folks, I can officially say that production has concluded! We concluded shooting around 3pm today, and it has really taken until now to settle in. Thanks to a last minute favor by Terrence Santos we were allowed access to a wonderful little lobby area, and the scene just kind of came together. DJ Walker and Chris Duerkopp did an excellent job working together to knock out the coverage efficiently and beautifully. Marc Ecclefield was bearing the audio burden as I was scrambling around and talking in circles. Gentleman, thank you thank you thank you.

Andrew Riviere, I couldn't have done it without your support, effort and friendship. You are truly an evil genius, and I cannot wait to see what we get into next. Your enthusiasm for Roses helped to keep me moving through the times when I would have much rather just laid down and quit. At times, I honestly felt like you wanted to see it get done more than myself, thank you.

Drew Hisey, you are a bronzed God amongst men, I have seen the video that proves that. Jerry, we are almost there buddy, still standing! CJ Stone, we still have a lot of work to do, but thusfar you have been an excellent audio engineer and I can't wait to start playing with some sounds! Cassie Cotham, het-wot hair and makeup effects four out of the five days! The James Reeves for the beautifully done title sequence, Sir you are the hardest working most dedicated individual I have ever met. I think you might be an alien actually. My brother for helping to build the elevator and of course Mom and Dad. I love you guys.

This brings me to my talent. Joe Homes, Charissa Adams, Monica Chilton, Mark Martin, Kristina Thalen, Amy Lynn Watson and Mr. Bjorn Whitney. Throughout this process you were so patient and capable, you have helped me bring this twisted little labor of love to life in a fashion I didn't think possible. I know you will each have a wonderful and fulfilling career, your passion and commitment is apparent. To work with such talented folks who have such wonderful professional demeanors is what I love about this whole business. People, you inspire me in ways I cannot articulate and you have my most sincere gratitude.

The post production process is going to commence starting tomorrow. I will spend three weeks solid getting an edit together, and preparing for color correction and audio. It is going to be a whole new frontier. After the three weeks coming up there will be rest for a time, and a wrap party that is going to blow some minds.

Gung HO!

So we are going to get all pirate and slip ourselves into a location. Sometimes the hand is forced, who is down?

Sprint to the Finish!

Well folks, it has gone by pretty fast now hasn't it? We are staring down the barrel of deadline time and we still have one day to go. Last week was a bit of a gut check when we finally got nothing but firm 'No's from all of our prospective properties for the final scene. Luckily, it is a pretty fast scene, and shouldn't take too much logistically to pull off. I am making some last ditch calls and pleading for help, it will hopefully pay some dividends within the next couple of days. Looked over the rough cut of the title sequence currently being worked on by James Reeves and it is BEAUTIFUL! It will be such a nice lead in to the film, which is also coming together nicely. Stay tuned for more updates over the next couple of days, everything always gets better after Monday.

A New Approach

Sadly, we were not able to lock down our ideal location for the reception area. The good news is we have more irons in the fire, and we should have an alternate lined up for either the 30th or 31st. Keep an eye out for updates!

Fantastic Bananas!

Reviewed the footage for the elevator and the hospital, it is looking great!

Unfortunate Dilemma

We will not be hitting our mark for the final shoot day for Roses. The reception area has been a continuing struggle, and unfortunately has put me in a position where I am postponing days. The good news is, it is a quick scene, and we still have plenty of time to get it done. Thank you for your patience!

WOW!

I am one happy camper! Talk about a productive week! I cut together a rough version of Scene 9 and it is looking great! I need to stop using exclamation points so much. Now, the final hurdle, finding a reception area fitting to the scene. Anybody. . .?

A Peek at Day Four

The elevator shoot. This scene was the one scene that scared me the most going into production, I really had no idea how I was going to pull it off. With the help of Andrew Riviere, Drew Hisey, Chris Duerkopp and CJ Stone the shoot went without a hitch. Lucky me! I also have two very talented, and very patient lead actors who carried the scene beautifully. I hit the mother lode with my actors, and can't thank Joe Homes and Charissa Adams enough! Love you guys!

Camera Ops that mean business.

Does that bar seem high to you?

Now we have one scene left to go and the project is a wrap! Keep an eye out for more peeks at production!

Blogger Backfire

Apparently there was some major work going on to the Blog system last night, and my previous post was lost in the wash. The good news is however that day four went off without a hitch! Take a look at the action from day three! Scene nine is the finale scene for the short, excellent performances by Joe Homes, Charissa Adams, Monica Chilton and of course Mr. Mark Martin!

Scramblin' Entertainment

So here we are, the big day with the elevator set. It is going to be a challenge, and it is going to be crazy, but it is going to be fun! From what I have seen of the footage from the hospital it is looking great, I can't wait to see the rest come together! Keep an eye out fro late night production stills from Scene Six!

Day Three

FINALLY! After a two week break in the action we are back to rolling. Tonight we will be shooting scene 9 which is the hospital. I am getting ready to pack up and head to the studio with my fully functional adjustable vibrating bed and a duffle bag of costume goodies. We are going to be operating with a very small team, but keep an eye out for production stills!

Prepare for Rehearsals!

I am getting the ants in my pants! Time to get back to work on Roses to tackle the next two scenes. Wednesday we will be commencing with the Hospital Finale scene, which will also be a wrap day for Mark Martin and Monica Chilton who have both delivered hilarious performances thus far! Today we made an awesome purchase of the perfect tacky old hospital bed, and we installed the fully functional light fixture to the main wall of the elevator set! It is coming together nicely folks, I can't wait to get back to work with everybody!

Setting Up.

Put together the last wall for the elevator set today. Up next is some touch up painting and getting the practical light all wired up. Special thanks to the Set Builder Jared Littlefield! I am also working on the expense report so far, but that is boring.

Meet Brea

Here are some snaps of the lovely Charissa Adams in her costume for 'Brea'. Intimidating no?

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

The wheels are turning!

Today we pieced together the floor for the elevator, very exciting! I would also like to say the next two official shoot days are set in stone! Next Wednesday and Thursday will be the third and fourth days of official production for Roses! The multi-talented Mr. James Reeves is hard at work getting the title sequence pieced together, and that leaves only one full day of shooting left!

Unless of course, something goes horribly wrong. . .

Think happy thoughts people! So far all the hard work and dedication is paying off in a big way, I am so proud of what we have so far I can hardly believe there is still so much more good stuff to get! Look forward to pictures of the lovely Charissa Adams in costume, and the Elevator set.

May!

So May is upon us and we still have much work left to do. I am excited to get into the third and fourth days of shooting and will be dedicating this week to constructing the set and locking down the props and pieces we are going to need for the hospital sequence as well. Friday provided us an opportunity to touch base with Charissa Adams and get her all fitted for her costume (keep an eye out for pictures). We have just nine days before we are set to roll on the first of the elevator sequences, I am really excited!

Timing is Everyhing

Ladies and Gentleman,

I am going to apologize in advance for a coming gap in updates. This weekend I am going to be committing a majority of my time to catching up on my portfolio class. Sadly, I was assigned my portfolio review during the same time as shooting my portfolio piece. It is an unfortunate turn of events, however it should only serve to set us back a couple of days. We are still going to be shooting the hospital scene, and the elevator scene on May the 11th and 12th. Currently we are making progress on locking down our final location.

I think it would be funny if I ended up failing my portfolio review, especially considering I have been involved at an executive level in three senior productions already. I suppose being the invisible hand has distinct disadvantages.

Angels On Our Shoulders!

Hey all!

Well, they don't call me the bullet dodger for nothing! Some kind soul returned a very expensive piece of equipment that I had thought was lost for good. Thank you, whoever you are! Art Department put in some work last night getting the set pieces painted, it is only a matter of time until we have the elevator constructed and we are ready to roll on the rest of the movie! Let's keep the momentum up, everything is going great!

Peek at Day One

Day one was exciting to say the least! Here are some snaps from the shoot. Joe Homes and Aubrey and Kristina Thalen playing Tanya. There will be many more to come I am sure! Photos are courtesy of James Schmidt.

Happy Tuesday

Going to retrieve the rest of the footage from day one today! I am really excited, so far everything is looking really solid. Stay tuned for the calendar and more announcements!

Storyboards for Scene 2

For my players this should look awfully familiar. To the rest of you, it is going to be a wonderful surprise!

Meet the Leads!

Here are the character concept designs for Brea and Aubrey. I drew them myself!

A Peek at Day Two

Here are some little snapshots from the Easter Sunday shoot. The scene stars Joe Homes as Aubrey, the main character, playing across from the lovely and talented Amy Watson as Mrs. Birdie. There are a couple of pics of me and the crew in there too, do we look tired?

Welcome to the Roses Project!

Hey all!

I must admit, that this whole 'internet' thing scares the living Zombie Jesus out of me. I know that is a contradiction, but I needed to start this blog off with a bang! I just got the skeleton up for now, but by tomorrow there is going to be a real time calendar posted along with some production stills and other goodies! So far the amazing cast has done a wonderful job making the characters jump off of the page, and the crew has delivered on their end as well.

I have had a chance to review the footage from the first two days, and I must say that this project is going to be a lot of fun if we keep up this momentum. Stay tuned lovebirds, it only gets better from here!
